The plastic boxes are being sold in a local hardware store in Vienna. Here is the product-link: http://icydock.eu/en/pages/products/external_cases.php?we_objectID=5494

This is such a fantastic post, your workflow has helped me a LOT!!! Very clever!

I have to add to Joseph's question, where do you get the plastic casing for the HD's shown in picture 6?

would love to know!

Nice to see that you use almost the same setup as we do. We started with Addonics disk arrays build in an old external scsi casing connected by SATA. But when the Quickport came available we moved away from the extra drive drawers we needed which added $14 to each backup drive. The only problem now is protecting the drives while they are stored. In the drive drawers the driver were more-less protected.

Where did you get the protective plastic case from, looks like a good and safe solution. :-)

I just wanted to add something of our own workflow...

We use two drives containing the same information. Backup drive A and drive B contains the same data. Drive A is kept at location A and drive B is kept somewhere else. If a drive fails, get stolen or the place burns down, we still have a backup that maybe still works.

An other thing we keep track of is how old the discs are. We visually color label discs by year and if a disc is older than 3 years we place the content on a new disk.

Last note I would like to share Diskcatalogmaker it is more compact and lightweight version of CDfinder.

Very smart Christoph... internals are so so so cheap these days it's just a much more elegant solution to the problem.

Fantastic workflow... looking forward to adopting it. I especially like the order & redundancy, and of course the Sharkoon HD toaster, didn't know such gadgets existed...

Thanks :)

Here I explain why I am converting to Cineform. The "streamclipped" conversion is because in Final Cut Pro native codecs like ProRes speed up render and preview times. h264 is not a good codec for editing.

Absolutely helpful. I'm a former HDV'er and recently moved to HDSLR, and this is very compelling. What is the Cineform file conversion for? I understand the raw footage and the "streamclipped" footage, perhaps that's the 60p to 24p conform for slow mo?

No, no rebooting. Just connecting eSATA drives just as if it were USB drives.
